track 'n share help

- Importing the GPS track

The first thing we need is a GPS track. You can get a GPS track from various sources. For the tutorial, we will use the GPX file supplied.

To start click on the "From file" button in Step 1 of the wizard (the wizard is the Track(ed) Adventures tab).

Next a file open dialog is shown. Navigate to the folder where you have installed track 'n share (default c:\program files\track-n-share). Next you will see a folder "Tutorial". Click on the folder and you will see "tutorial.gpx".

The track 'n share client will now import the file and show a screen similar to the one below:

The standard screen looks like the one above, but it is simple to enlarge the map. To do this, simply click on the sliders (the red lines in the picture below) and drag the sliders to enlarge the map. Note that the coordinates and the column on the left will have a minimum size so they cannot be removed completely. The setting of the slider is saved for the next time you open this screen.

Now to see the route on the map you can:

On the left, you can see two dates, 23-DEC-2007 and 27-DEC-2007. Click on 27-DEC-2007. You will see the map is updated to show the track. You can also show both tracks simultaneously. To do this, simply hold the CTRL key and click on the 23-DEC-2007. You will now see both dates highlighted  and the map shows both tracks.

Now we still have two tracks, but we want to combine them into one track. Position the mouse cursor over the highlighted tracks and press the right mouse button. A context menu will appear, like the one below:

Click on the "Combine tracks" option (if this option is disabled you have only selected one track. Hold the CTRL key and click on both tracks to select them). The track is now combined into one called 23-DEC-2007 (the name of the first track). Next, right-click the tracks again and choose "Group by date". This option splits the combined track to form two tracks again, based on the dates. You will now see "Track 1" and "Track 2". Go ahead and choose "Rename track" to give the tracks a meaningful name.

Time to move on! Click on the "Save new trip" to complete Step 1 of the wizard and get ready to add some text!
