track 'n share help

- Converting a track file to GPX 1.1

track 'n share uses the standard GPX format for importing tracks.

GPX (the GPS Exchange Format) is a light-weight XML data format for the interchange of GPS data (waypoints, routes, and tracks) between applications and web services on the Internet.

The GPX 1.1 schema was released on August 9, 2004. GPX has been the de-facto XML standard for lightweight interchange of GPS data since the initial GPX 1.0 release in 2002. (See www.topografix.com for more details).

There are many different file formats available and many of those can be converted to GPX. In the start menu of track 'n share you will find a converter. When you start the screen, it lets you select from a large list of files. The converter is already setup to work with track 'n share. To convert a track, use the following steps:

  1. Choose "Convert file to GPX format" from the track 'n share start menu to open the following screen:

  2. Select the input file format from the top left list.
  3. Browse to the input file (by using the button on the right)
  4. In the "What?" section, choose "Tracks"
  5. Select the output file (by using the button on the right)
  6. Click on the "Options" button for "Output" and ensure the Target GPX version for output value is "1.1" (without the quotes).
  7. Finally, press the let's go button
  8. You can import the resulting GPX by using the steps described in Step 1: Import or open a track

 IMPORTANT!

Please not that the default setting for GPSBabel is to download waypoints. What? should be set to "Tracks" to work correctly with track 'n share
